University application Statement:

Games have always been an interest of mine, ever since I was first handed a fake controller and told
I was playing on the PlayStation. Of course now I know I was not playing anything, but it fascinates
me nonetheless. There has always been a hunger for looking and understanding games, thinking I
could make that. This turned into overtime of searching for the thought and reason behind the simplest
of ideas and concepts that developers add to a game to make it easier to understand when you are sat
at the other side of the screen. This is where I started to discover what I liked. After a few months
I started to play around with the software I was using. I discovered bits beyond what we were taught,
learning how it worked and where I could use it in accordance with video games.

I always had a passion for games and how they can make people come together and enjoy
While in secondary school I had the opportunity to work with the local youth centre,
I hope I can apply what I have learnt so far to my work during university while working

something. As I played more and more games, I realised that the art and design of games
really helps pull it together, whether that be through the actual modelling of the game or using
the user interface to display information at a glance. Nothing is more important in my eyes
than having every component work together in a game. This involves working with others
and communicating ideas. I had work experience at Elektron, where I assisted a team of
salespeople in pitching products. I also got to shadow one of the graphic designers which
helped give me an understanding of how people work together in a corporate setting, as well
as seeing ideas in meetings. This really helped me in how to communicate within groups of
people that I don't know. This is a vital skill I picked up. This will help me become an
environment designer, as I have an ability to work within a team.

doing an Art award. This involved a lot of different things like giving me the opportunity
to go to London to an art exhibition at the Natural History Museum. This gave me a lot
of inspiration while I was there and an opportunity to work at a local primary school showing
them our ideas and enthusiasm about art. As I went through secondary school I got the
opportunity to go to Cambridge for the first time. This sparked an idea that I wanted to try
and recreate a small part of the city in a game I was playing at the time. I tried once coming
up with what I thought was good at the time, I iterated on this design recreating it once again
but with the skills I had learnt. This gave me the opportunity to learn that when creating
something it's all about trying where you fail or even when you succeed what you can
change to make something even better. I started to apply this to my other work when I
went into college, knowing that every idea can be improved on.
At college I have learnt a lot about persistence and perseverance after doing long days
and long two-hour commutes in and out every day. I have had to learn to manage my
time by making sure I do my various units whilst also progressing as a person and with
my skills with practicing using Unreal and Unity in my spare time. As well as this I have
been using Autodesk Maya and After Effects to bring my animation units together.
These have helped me become a more independent person and prepare me for what's to come.

with a whole new group of people who also aspire to create something amazing such
as I do. I look forward to also sharing this passion with others while I am there to
create and design various things that I can be proud of. I also hope to show my
work to others and show what I will have learnt at University to game studios and
not just prove my ability to others but also my determination to get somewhere and
do something that not only do I enjoy but that I am so enthusiastic about.
